INL is seeking a Research Laboratory Assistant with scientific background in Biotechnology, Food Science and Technology or related area, to work in the development of new encapsulation systems to enhance bioactivity and improve the bioavailability of functional food ingredients

The Research Laboratory Assistant will work under the supervision of researchers from the group with the possibility of the results comprising part of a PhD thesis.

Job Role & Key Responsibilities

 As a Research Laboratory Assistant for R&D project on food processing you will take on a key role within the following responsibilities:

  • Development of micro and nano encapsulation devices based on food grade biopolymers using different technologies, among others: coacervation, vibrational spray-dryer, electrospray or microfluidics.
  • Contribute with own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in written form.

Job Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • MSc degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Engineering or related fields;
  • Experience in some of the following areas: : production/extraction of food grade bioactive compounds or biopolymers, micro and nanoencapsulation, assessment of in vitro bioactivity (e.g. antioxidant, antihypertensive or antimicrobial) and physical and chemical characterization techniques (Z-sizer, size exclusion chromatography, rheology).

Personal Skills

  • Strong motivation to carry out fundamental research in the proposed topic;
  • Capability to work both independently and as part of a team with the ability to pay close attention to detail; 
  • Availability to attend workshops and conferences, and to engage in collaborations with researchers in other laboratories. 


  • English is the working language of INL. Upper advance level in oral and written English is required.
  • Working knowledge of another language is an advantage.
