Full Professorship (W3) in „Infection, Inflammation and Cancer“ at the German Cancer Research Center Heidelberg, Germany

The following position is available at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in cooperation with the Medical Faculty of the Heidelberg University

Full Professorship (W3) in „Infection, Inflammation and Cancer“ (Ref-No. 269/2017)

Applications are welcome from internationally renowned scientists to lead a unique and highly innovative research program elucidating fundamental aspects in cancer development in the context of infections or chronic inflammation.

The professorship is embedded as new research division into the research progam “Infection, Inflammation & Cancer” of the DKFZ (https://www.dkfz.de/en/forschung/schwerpunkte/fsp-f.php). By using mechanistic, immunological and epidemiological approaches, this research program aims at the understanding of the link between infection or inflammation and cancer and translating obtained results into prophylactic and therapeutic strategies. A further aim of the research program is to continue the development of viruses as tools for cancer therapy. Therefore, we are looking for an internationally recognized scientist who develops and applies innovative approaches and methodologies and will strengthen, complement or expand our existing research program. The candidate should be highly motivated to contribute to existing research networks or establish new collaborations.

The DKFZ is home to more than 100 independent research units and thereby constitutes the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. The DKFZ offers state-of-the-art infrastructure with excellent core facilities and international M.Sc. and PhD programs (www.dkfz.de). Its location on the Heidelberg Neuenheimer Feld campus within close proximity to the research institutes of Heidelberg University and the University clinics, as well as the EMBL and the MPI for Medical Research, further contributes to a vibrant international research atmosphere.
